About Our Inspiration 

Over a century after its founding, Stanford Highgate Baptist Church, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2004, remains active today, with a membership primarily composed of people from the Caribbean.

 

In the 1890s, Stanford, an African American former slave, worked in a church predominantly attended by white working-class individuals. Today, a white working-class minister serves a congregation with ancestors who were enslaved.
